DC Comics is one of the most successful comic book companies of all time, it's universe flush with household superheroes such as Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, Hawkman, Green Lantern, The Flash, Aquaman, Shazam, Hawkman, and the Green Arrow. The rogues gallery of the DC world is many even more notorious with the likes of Lex Luthor, The Joker, Darkseid, The Penguin, The Joker, Catwoman, Sinestro, and Braniac.

The DC name originally came from Detective Comics, one of the first titles in their library. Detective Comics of course also introduced the world to Batman in issue #27 back in 1939. After the debut of Superman in Action Comics #1 (June, 1938), the world of comic books would never be the same again.

Along with their arch-rival Marvel, the two companies share about 80% of the American comic book market.
